COOKEVILLE, TENN. – Cookeville Regional Medical Center has received the highest quality rating (three stars) from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery and aortic valve replacement (AVR). This is the second time that CABG surgery at Cookeville Regional has received three stars from the STS.
“This is such an honor to have our program recognized for the amazing heart surgery procedures that we perform here,” states Dr. Lewis Wilson, CRMC cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon. “The STS rates cardiac procedures at hospitals using 300 different data points, so it really is an intensive evaluation of the quality of care that we provide. We received three stars for CABG during the last rating period, and we maintained that rating this time along with three stars for aortic valve replacements. This recognition reflects our program as a whole. We all strive to improve.”
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons has developed its comprehensive rating system for the quality of heart procedures among hospitals across the country. For the period ending 12/31/16 CRMC was among only 5.68 percent of participants that received three stars in both CABG and AVR.
